Volunteer Community Service Group 'Oasis'
Gangnam Center, Seoul National University Hospital

The volunteer community service group, Oasis, of Seoul National University Hospital was established in October 2006 to return the interest and love that have been received and to be a comfort and hope for the neighbors in need. Its name implies the vision of creating a new world in which all people equally enjoy health and happiness in an oasis where the joy of sharing comes together with the meaning of promoting public health and social contribution, the core values of Seoul National University Hospital. Oasis, which is run by the voluntary participation of staff at the Gangnam Center, regularly conducts medical services to the underprivileged in the Ansan City Foreign Residents Center, Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do, Gangnam-gu, Seoul and Jongno General Welfare Center. In addition, it practices health lectures for residents and bathing services for elders who live alone. The 10-year journey that we have taken together with them is a precious time when the underprivileged people live in harmony with the world, the elderly receive the warmest care of society, and the foreign workers to dream of a better future. We promise to be the Oasis that will continue to breathe together with many more people in the future.

Oasis’ activities are divided into:

1. Early disease diagnosis business (free medical consultation),

2. Health preservation business (health lecture),

3. Disease prevention business (free vaccination, supported by Rafael Clinic),

4. Community service project (bathing service at Jongno Elderly General Welfare Center for elderly who live alone in).

According to the results from September 2016, there have been a total of 199 free medical service activities in Korea, of which 17,237 foreign patients were among the 26,264 total patients. In particular, if treatment is required, we are working closely with the nearby hospital or Seoul National University Hospital to ensure continuous management is followed up. Oasis has celebrate the 10th anniversary of its establishment last year, and will continue to share the hope and services for the next 10, 20 and more years to come.
